The J-585 is a portable 4-speed record player with a built in mono tube amplifier. It has an idler wheel with 36mm ø. The J-585 has been produced over a longer period from the late fifties until the mid sixties. Some early versions had the loudspeaker in the top cover - but not all. First the player did not have an automatic shut off mechanism. There was a separate power switch for the motor that has been operated by the speed selector mechanics.
In the J-585 Lenco started to use PCB’s that were originally produced by German PCB manufacturer Ruwel, but
in the cheapest J-585 - the Electrophon Boy - conventional wiring was used. There was only a single stage tube amplifier with an EL-84. That amplifier had only a volume potentiometer and the player section had only the 33 and 45 speeds. It’s initial price was 99.50 CHF.
In the first Boyophon, the tube amplifier was different to the later versions as it used an ECL 82 tube instead of the ECL 86. It was distributed in Switzerland by Ex Libris as ‚Seventeen’ for 145 CHF.
