It is not necessary to remove the motor assembly completely from the record player. You can even leave the idler wheel on the axle because you would need a special nippers for removing the small black clips!

Be careful with the next step!

Use a precision wire cutter and cut the old and hardened rubber as close as possible to the plastic support. Repeat this just a few mm further from the first cut.
